How To Make Marzipan

February 9, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The almond tree can do a lot more than just look pretty: it produces almonds…and almonds are the main ingredients in raw marzipan.

Since the beginning of this Millennium I have had the pleasure of making marzipan from scratch every Christmas.

If you follow my step by step guide on how to make homemade marzipan, I hope you will feel the same pleasure, and you will most likely be very popular with your family and friends.

How To Make Marzipan
To find sweet almonds the flowers must be white. Do not pick all your almonds from a tree with pink flowers: they are bitter and contain cyanide! (However the real marzipan flavour comes from adding 4% to 6% bitter almond)

If you are as lucky as I am to live in an almond growing climate, you can do the whole process from picking the almonds off the tree to the finished homemade marzipan.

Skiing Tips For Beginners

If you are a beginner or have beginners and /or children in your party these tips may be useful. Note a beginner is considered to be someone with about 4 weeks worth of skiing time.
Look for an appropriate resort, as not all places cater for the novices and children. Skiing and snowboarding is great fun but can also be dangerous and we do not want accidents. These do occur and particularly where there is not enough room for the beginners. Make sure there are plenty of nursery slopes and as you progress, gentle pistes.

There is an amazing amount of concerts scheduled all across Europe, so with a little flair for research and planning – you could combine your holiday or city-break with a concert of a lifetime, and now you can search concerts by country or by artist. You have 32 European countries: to choose your concert destination from.

Combine a Concert with a City-Break

PinkPop Festival is placed in the Netherlands about 134 miles from Amsterdam,: near the city of Heerlen. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the oldest annual festival in the world. To avoid overcrowding the tickets have been limited to 60.000. Mark your calender from May 28th to May 31st
July 15th -18th you could be walking on sunshine at the Benicassim Festival in Spain.: The beautiful setting between the beach and the hills make this festival a one-of-a-kind experience on the shores of the Mediterranean. It is however extremely hot to sleep in a tent in Spain in July, so I recommend booking a hotel.:

Big names this year:The Prodigy, Kasabian, PIL, The Specials, Ian Brown and Dizzee Rascal.

How to Make Sundried Raisins

January 23, 2010 · Leave a Comment

When the grapes on your grape covered terrace or the vines in your vineyard starts to look ripe – then it’s time to consider whether all of them are to be eaten fresh from the fruit bowl, to be changed into vine…or to take advantage of the fact (if you are that lucky) that you happen to live where the climate makes it possible to create sun dried raisins …..with a little help from the sun.

From Grapes to Sun Dried Raisins
Drying fruit is by no means a new invention. We as human beings have been drying fruit ever since the Stone Age in order to make the crop last until the next season. It is still common practice in Eastern and Southern Europe to dry fruit.
However there is nothing like producing your own big & juicy sun dried raisins.
